The Start-to-Finish Guide for Moving to a New Place

Moving Day begins before the scheduled day.

To perform an affordable moving, make sure you do not carry unnecessary furniture. Believe!  This will save you time and money.

For a safe, reasonable and fast moving is important to understand time.

It is quite common customer hasten the removalist’s work, but in fact, what makes all the difference is planning the moving.

 

The manual below provides tips to save money, avoid losses and make the best of moving experience.

 

1 – Checking the furniture, refrigerator and large closets sizes, plus the room for it at the new address. Saving up 10 to 30 minutes per mobile.

 

 

2 – Empty cabinets and drawers. This get the furniture lighter, thus arrive quickly to the truck.

 

 

3 – If the cabinet has removable shelves, take them off before the moving starts. This prevents damage, leaves the cabinet lighter thus save move time. Remember, when we talk about time, we talk about money.

 

 

4 – Use boxes. Put everything you can into boxes, always. They facilitate to move and optimize the space in the truck. Bags are indicated only for lightweight items such as quilt, comforters and pillows.

 

 

5 – For books, use small boxes. Remember that lots of them in big boxes are heavy. This drains energy from removalists and the work gets less agile.

6- Determine to where boxes belong writing: bedroom, living room, bathroom, children, and so on.

7 – Communicate date and time of your moving to neighbors and build manager. If possible, put a visible notice in the elevator and lobby. This creates understanding and cooperation of all and avoids problems.

8 – If your building has more than one elevator, check the possibility of use one exclusively for the moving during the agreed time. This saves time and therefore money.

9 – When hiring the moving send pictures of everything that will be moved and rooms. This way you will know accurately whether you will need one or more trucks. Take pictures also of the access to your home.  The more detailed the information, the more accurate the quote.

10 – Believe, in case of buildings with staircase and condominiums where the entry is made on foot,     hiring three men, is cheaper than 2. The total moving time will be less. Example: 2 men – moving in 8 hours = $ 800.00 | 3 men – moving in 5 hours = $ 600.00

11 – Reserve parking spot for the truck the day before of the moving, at pick-up and drop-off. Parking well and close makes major difference.

12 – Once the removalists arrive, show them everything that is going to be moved. They need to plan how to fit everything in the truck.

13 – Knowing the sequence of items in the truck helps to understand how the work is done: – Background:  all boxes (bags go on top of the boxes), mattress. – Middle: large items (unit tv, sofa, cupboards, drawers), cushions and pillows, small items (toys, chairs) – Front: refrigerator, wash machine, dryer, plants, bbq, bicycles.

14 – Planning how to fit the items inside the truck is of utmost importance to avoid a second trip. Efficiency = time saving.

 

Second trip?

15 – Sometimes the working time informed by the office fails, or the photos given were not detailed, or a sofa is really big. To solve it, the removalist will inform you if a second trip is required or if requesting a second truck is more appropriate.  In these cases four men is cheaper than two. Trust.

16 Let the access inside the house clear. Move a closet amid a disorganized place is difficult, it can be dangerous and spend time.

17 – Avoid scheduling the moving during rush hours. We can´t predict external factors in the quote.

18 – In cases of a new building, prefer to schedule your moving few weeks after you receive the key. There is a great chance new residents  will be moving as soon as they get the key, with this, the elevator will be congested and the change of time will increase.

19 – Consider a lunch break for removalists. It is from food that comes the energy and strength. This pause is essential to their agility and efficiency. Do not worry, this period will be deducted.
